Making Windows Explorer Open Correctly

When I open Windows Explorer, it never opens with the
devices visible on the initial screen. I have to
click "My Computer" under "Folders" (left-hand side of
screen) in order to see the devices (e.g. "A", "C", etc.
drives). Is there a way to open Windows Explorer without
always having do an additional click to get to the list of
hardware devices. By the way, the "My Computer" icon on
the desktop solves half the problem. It opens with
visibility to the devices but there is only one pane. I
have to click the yellow "folder" in the toolbar to get a
folder window in "My Computer."

OK. I can now get it to open in two panes with it
pointing to the "C" drive. But the "C" drive, which has
MANY folders, opens (expands) automatically, thereby
forcing all of the other drives ("A", "D", etc.) off the
monitor (i.e. I have to scroll to see anything other than
folders in the "C" drive.) Is there a way to keep the "C"
drive from expanding so that I can see all of the drives
as I open Windows Explorer?
