Making a video CD

I downloaded some funny movie clips from internet and then used Nero express
to burn these to CD-R, The whole process was completed successfully but when
I put the CD in CD-ROM, no movie clip could be played rather there were 4-5
folders containing either notepad files or some files of unknown format. Can
anybody help. thanks in advance.

Toss the 3rd party cd-rw software,download WM encoder 9 series,run a clip
thru by selecting "convert audio/video" locate the file,create a new folder
for
converted,once all is thru,R.click the folder,select,move to cdrw

What format(s) are these video clips in?

It sounds like you merely burned a data CD. When you open Nero Express,
do you see a menu in the upper right-hand corner that says "What would
you like to burn?" You need to click on the entry that says
"Videos/Pictures" and then "Video CD."

Have you tried playing the disc in a standalone DVD player?

The properties of movie clips on my hard disc tell me 'type of file
video
clip, opens with windows media player'
I tried to play the CD on standalone CD/DVD player but there was an
error shown regarding format of CD.

Using Windows Explorer, right-click on one of these clips and select
Properties. What does it say next to Type of File? Does it say WMV File
by any chance?

Also, you may as well you make sure that you can view file extensions:

1. Open up any folder.
2. Tools | Folder Options
3. Click View tab
4. Under Advanced Settings, you may as well uncheck the box next to
"Hide extensions for known file types."
5. Click "Apply to All Folders."
6. Click OK.

Now you should be able to tell instantly what format your clips are in
when you use Windows Explorer.

I'm pretty sure Nero only handles .mpg and .avi files.

It looks like you will need to convert your Windows files (.wmv and
..asf) to .mpg or .avi files.

Thanks a lot for so much help. i checked nero site but now have forgotten
what i found at that site.

I changed the format of all files to wmv. Can they now be copied to CD using
nero express. I see another option by right click of 'send to CD-RW and when
I open CD, it says these files are ready to be written on CD. Is this method
different from doing it through Nero and if yes how is it different.

First, make sure you have all the most recent codecs.

You may want to use Media Player Classic as your player. Go to
http://www.codecguide.com/about_kl.htm and click on Download: Mega (this
will make sure you have every possible codec needed).
