Making a folder private

R

Rich

I would like to add a password to one of my folders, or
make it private, but when I right-click it and go to
properties then the Sharing & Secruity tab, the "make
this folder private" option is greyed-out. Is there a way
to sort this out or is there another way to make my
folder private? Thanks.

Rich;
You don't password a specific file or folder, you password the
profile.

In any case, you need to be using NTFS and not FAT32.
To check:
Open My Computer, Right click the drive, click Properties.
What does it say by "File System"?
To convert to NTFS:

Data should be safe, back-up important data just in case.

Follow the appropriate link:
Windows XP Home:

Windows XP Pro:

Password all accounts with Administrator access including the default
Administrator.
Give all other users access only to Limited profiles.
You must tightly control all Administrators because Any Administrator
can do and undo anything any Administrator can do.
Take appropriate precautions to prevent losing the passwords.

You should use an Administrator profile for Administrator work.
Use a Limited profile for all routine work.

.
customized the folder with a hidden option and then put
it somewhere on your computer, to access unhide all
folders and go to where you put it.

you must first open 'my computer' no explore it, then go
to 'tools', 'folder options', and click the view tab.
right down at the bottom of the list there is an option
to 'use simple file sharing (recommeded)' this must be
unticked. now when you go to the security of a folder,
you will have many more options.

however the best way to make folders private is to use
the uesr accounts.

let me know how you get on!!
