I want to make a complete backup of my disks (including partition info,
etc. etc.) So that if I format my harddisk, I can still restore it
completely like nothign happened. How can I do this. Also, my machine
has a hidden partition with some system backup stuff from the
manufacturer. and I would have to back that up as well... thanks.

Use an imaging product such as Acronis TrueImage, Norton Ghost,
PowerQuest DriveImage.

I wouldn't recommend Acronis TrueImage. While some people have had
good luck with it, I've found it to be unreliable, and in attempting to
resolve the reliability problems, I've found their support to be poor.
Try one of the other alternatives mentioned above.

Acronis TrueImage and DiskDirector are curious products. They
work extremely well most of the time but they have some very
irritating bugs. Most users will never see them but those who use
the product on many machines will soon become aware of them.
Here are a few:
- No keyboard input.
- The Recovery Disk crashes the PC.
- Some images may not be readable.
- The Recovery CD may be incompatible with some
LCD screens.
- Some mice work, others don't.
- On some machines the Recovery CD locks the machine
in the initial setup screen, which is completely black with
nothing but the Acronis logo in the top left-hand corner.

I get the impression that Acronis have some very bright
engineers who are forced to cut corners when doing their
quality testing.
