Major Problems with IE 6

So, for a long time, I cannot use the automatic search button in IE. If I
type search terms in the IE Address Bar, like "dogs", this is what I get:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for might have been removed or had its name changed.

Please try the following:

Open the home page, and then look for links to the information you want.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is
spelled correctly.

If you still cannot open the page, click the Internet Explorer
Search button to look for similar sites.

Internet Explorer

And this is what shows up in the Address Bar: http:///? dogs

To top it off, the IE icon - or what SHOULD be the IE icon - on the address
bar is now consistently showing up as th "unknown file type" icon.

The former problem started a while ago, and my boyfriend - who DEVELOPED IE
- cannot fix it. The latter problem just started recently.

Does anyone have any suggestions for either of these problems? I am super
frustrated.

Thanks!

Oh, also - the little icon at the top right that should be an IE icon is a
Comcast icon.

I haven't used Comcast in 2 years.
