I would like to start doing some preventative maintenace on my server it is Windows 2000 Advanced. Can some one point me in the right direction as far as some things I can do. I besides the basics, scandisk, defrag.. Thanks

Getting to know your event logs, and checking for critical updates, are both
important. AV definitions require maintenance or updating. How are you
backing up the system, and verifying the backups? Do you have anything to
notify you if the system or its services stop responding? Even brief
intermittent losses of service disappoint our one's community. There's the
Performance Console and Network Monitor. And then there's intrusion
detection... maintaining the gold book... DRP...

You may want to blow the dust out of it with compressed air from a can every
year or so depending on how much dust you find in it. If it is in a room people
rarely go into you may never need to blow the dust and dead spiders out. [A
vacuum cleaner can generate static electricity which may damage the chips;
compressed air from a compressor usually has oil added unless it is breathing
air in which case it has water added.]

Ok well there is some steps in the right direction. Some of the things I was thinking of were, scan disk, defrag, windows updates, norton updates, spyware removal, weekly or monthly reboots, backups, cleaning of the machine itself. Is there anything anyone can think of that would help out? Thanks
