Mailbox Errors constantly on Outlook start

We currently run Exchange 2003 SP2, and our end users run Outlook 2003
(usually SP3). I am not the person directly responsible for supporting our
IT infrastructure, which is probably why we don't have any mailbox size
limits enabled on our Exchange server.

We have one end user with a mailbox that is about 10.3 GB (it has about
60,500 items according to the Exchange System Manager). This user recently
switched over to a laptop, so we have cached mode enabled on her Outlook.
Since she switched to the laptop, almost everytime she shuts out of Outlook
(and either reboots, logs off and back on, or just waits a while) and then
logs back in to Outlook, she gets the error message stating that the mailbox
didn't close out properly the last time and it is being checked for errors
(and because of the size of her mailbox and OST file, this check takes a long
time). However, when she closes out of Outlook we make sure to check to see
if the Outlook.exe executable has shut down before we reboot the machine (or
log off).

We have two other users with mailboxes larger than this user, and neither
one of them experience this problem (but neither is on cached exchange mode
either). The next largest mailbox of a user running on cached exchange mode
is 3.7 GB. Could this problem be caused by the size of her mailbox, or could
it be something else? Might it be necessary to somehow rebuild her mailbox
because its become corrupted (and if so, how does one go about doing this)?
Are there any other troubleshooting steps I can try to narrow down what is
causing this problem and fix it? This user is becoming increasingly
frustrated and I don't have a good answer for them (aside for them to reduce
the size of their mailbox but they aren't interested in doing that unless I
can absolutely point to their size as the root cause of this problem).

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I forgot to mention that we already tried deleting and re-creating her
offline file store (.OST file) once and it didn't seem to help.
