Use the KB fix but remember to move all the emails back into your inbox and
then redelete them and then you will be able to empty your deleted folders.

This seems to be an extremely common problem MS has not fixed.

Hi

I'm having a similar problem on a new PC with Vista.

When I create a new message and hit "send" the message goes to the Outbox
and stays there. Similarly if I reply to a mail it just goes to the Outbox.
"Send & Receive" does nothing.

I can close Windows Mail, open it again and then hit "Send & Receive" & the
message will go but the Outbox still has the number of messages next to it
even once it is empty.

I've disconnected the email scanning in Norton & I've downloaded the fix but
it made no difference. I've also upgraded to Norton 360 with and without
scanning but to no avail. I've just uninstalled Norton entirely and added AVG
instead both with and without email scanning applied and the result is
identical ... no change.

I can't think of anything else to do now. Any ideas?

Thanks

Gerry

In addition to what Shawn recommended, make sure that during the
install of AVG you selected the custom option which allows you to
deselect the email scanning module. Turning off scanning *after*
AVG is installed seems to be ineffective. For this reason, I recommend
the less troublesome Avast antivirus.

Hi Shawn & Gary

Thanks for your suggestions but unfortunately none of them make any
difference.

You cannot imagine the number of times I've deleted & recreated email
accounts!

I've downloaded the supposed fix.

Today I've removed AVG and replaced it with Avast with email scanning
disabled and i've reset Windows Mail following the instructions in the
tutorial.

The result ... as soon as I hit reply or send the mail jumps straight into
the outbox. Close WM & open it again and the mail sends.

That's the best part of 3 days I've been messing with this & see no
solution. It's unbelievable.

Regards

Gerry

Hi Gerry,

Norton may have corrupted your email account. You will probably need
to delete your email account and recreate it again. Read the "First"
section in this tutorial about antivirus programs to help prevent this
from happening again, then install the KB941090 Microsoft Update in the
"Second" section to fix the stuck message problem.

Click on Tools, then accounts, then the affected account, then Properties.
If there's no check mark in the box before Include this account when
checking for new messages, click on the box and then Apply. Click
on OK.

Click on Tools, then Options, then Send. If there's no check mark before
Send messages immediately, click on this box and then Apply. Click
on OK.

When you press send, the email is supposed to go to the Outbox,
and depending on your settings, it either stays there a while or gets
sent out almost immediately. I presume you have checked this setting:
Tools, Options, Send, "Send messages immediately."

When a Windows Mail problem is intractable, my advice is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail:
