Mail processing VERY slow

Hi,

I use Outlook 2003. All of my email is sorted by Rule and have been for
years. New, non routine, email goes into the Inbox, everything else, sorted
by Rule goes into unread mail. During working hours only the Inbox gets read.

Within the past month, the time from Download through sorting to where I can
do ANYTHING with Outlook has increased 500%. 100% of the program is consumed
with the mail downloading and sorting into Inbox and Unread.

This follows years of speedy work using the same computer. It is a program
rather than computer issue (Dell ran some tests and the computer meets
original specs) I reinstalled after Detect and Repair didn't improve things,
but it is still SLOW.

Do you have any idea which setting I may have gummed up?

Thanks

Bob

I would start looking in the area of this...

1) real-time antivirus scanning of the pst (this is bad, and i would disable
it real-time scanning of this file type.)

2) 3rd party programs that integrate with outlook

This list isn't inclusive, but I would look at things like PDA, Fax, Desktop
Search, .etc.

3) How big is the PST file? How many items are in the default folders like
Inbox, Calendar, Contacts, Sent Items, .etc.?

4) Is the PST file in good health? (e.g. Have you run the Inbox repair tool
[scanpst.exe] against it?)

Thank you neo, you got me thinking this slowing may have begun when I
converted my NOD32 from 2.7 to version 3.

Thanks again
