Mail not popping up automatically - have to click somewhere in out

In order to get my mail to pop up I have to click somewhere else in
outlook... whether it's changing folders or opening another email. "Send and
Receive" is not needed - all I have to do is click somewhere else. Also, the
little envelope icon is not showing up in the bottom of my screen when new
mail arrives. This is a newly re-installed version of Outlook 2000. Thanks
in advance for any help

Are you using Exchange? This is important to mention.

If so, it's likely your firewall software - if you use the XP firewall, add
ain inbound exception for outlook.exe.

Truthfully I'm not sure. I'm on a network at work and my IT guy can't
figure out what's wrong so I thought I'd ask here. But I will mention to him
that it could be a firewall issue. Thanks for your help!
