MAIL ICON SUB MENU WON'T OPEN

I HAVE WIND0WS98SE IE6 VERSION 6.028
I HAVE IT SET UP WITH PROFILES. in in one of these profiles in the past I
have had no problems opening the mail ICON and(and selecting(send link,send
page,new message) now all of a sudden( after I open the mail ICON) when I
click on any of these nothing happens(nothing opens) I tried other browsers
with no problems.
also this only affects the one profile the others I can open these fine.
therefore its got to be some setting but which?

What /should/ happen when you click on any of the Mail dropdowns? IOW, what
is your default Mail Client (e.g., OE, OL, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo,
Earthlink)?
 
nothing happens no msgs no nothing
it is if i never clicked on it. no response what soever. the system
continues on its merry way
however when I click supmenu read mail it opens. I have hot mail tried
changing to to outlook and others same result. nothing
