Mail at log in

When I close my laptop and open it the log in screen as usual says I have 1
program running. What is new is that it says I have 1 unread e-mail message.
The e-mail is not in my outlook. How do I locate it.

The Fisher-Price (regarding its childish fluff and use of bobble head
characters) Welcome Screen uses whatever is the currently defined
default MAPI e-mail client to poll the e-mail accounts defined within
it. The count shown in the Welcome Screen under a username is a
separate counter (in the registry) than the one within the e-mail
program, so it can get out of sync.
