The game Mafia version 1.2

My game keeps on crashing in the middle of a game or when I try to exit the
game.
I have all detail and effects turned all the way down or off.

Error
"Game.exe has encountered a problem and needs to shut down."

windows XP pro sp2
pentium 3 933
ati radeon 8500 64mb (catalyst 4.10)
512 mb ram
audigy 1

any help would be great (besides get a new computer). ;o)

I have a PIII @ 733Mz, 512 ram at 133fsb, ATI Radeon 64 DDR VIVO (7200),
SB-PCI128 (dual boot (98SE and XP-Pro-SP2) and also had initial problem that
now seems to be solved..

Under the game's setup (e.g. Setup.exe in same folder as Game.exe) I have

Res : 1024x768,
Fullscreen anti... : OFF
Fullscreen : Checked
Refresh : Default
Bit ... : 16
Triple buf..., Vertical Sync..., Truecolor, Low Detail and Software Mixing
.... buttons are "out",
Compressed, Truecolor and Disable EAX buttons are depressed.
Sound : Checked, Stereo Speakers.

Installed under 98SE and games running fine under it. It also runs finest
kind under XP Pro SP2 (just created shortcut to installed game, nothing
more). I can live without the EAX as under XP I can't seem to get all 4
speakers enabled anyways

I "think" the initial first run crash was due to EAX enabled and "Four
Speakers" selected (which under 98SE should work as it does for almost all
other games that offer that feature).

Only likely thing different is probably that I'm using a Ver 1.2 No-CD
crack.
