Mafia Wont Run Under XP

?

....

I bought Mafia for PC and when I try to run it, the monitor will change
resoultion, the screen will be black for a couple of seconds and it returns
to the desktop and the taksbar button says "Mafia" or something like "Mafia
Zzzzz". Someone said that it might be that XP doesnt have the right codec to
play the intro videos, which are .AVI's, I checked the program folder. I
have changed the video settings and have set it to "Windows 98/Me"
compatibilty mode, even though the manual says it supports XP Home and Pro.
I have been able to get it to run windowed, once, but I want to run it
Fullscreen

I have intergrated video set to 32 Mb. shared. The video is a VIA/S3G
Km400/Kn400.

Here is the rest of the specs

ABIT VA-10 mobo
AMD Duron 1.8 GHz
256 MB. PC-2100 DDR
WD 40 GB HDD
52x CDROM
Yahama Sound Card
Windows XP Home Edition SP1

Any ideas??

The game should work fine under Windows XP (It does here) Do you have the
latest drivers for your integrated video card?

The drivers for the intergrated video are dated 6/7/2003 and are version
6.14.10.35

I think I have discovered the problem

I ran Mafia under another account and this time when it went to black and
then back to the desktop, I was greeted by a message that said I needed a
Indeo codec.

Problem is, I read on a site that Microsoft kindly chose to leave the Indeo
codec out of XP SP1.
I dont know what to do. I want to run the game but I cant get an Indeo
codec.
Any suguesstions?

From what I know, Microsoft left it out, a page said so.I think it is true
because after I downloaded the Indeo codec and installed it, the game ran
without a problem

Well, anyways, thank you for your help.

Glad to hear you got it running. Since Microsoft didn't write the Indeo
codec, they can't include it on the operating system installation CD.
