I get this error whenever I try and play any Half-Life based game, or when I
insert an autoplay CD into my DVD ROM. I think its the DVD ROM. Am I right in
assuming this? I have had problems with it before.

No, you're not. It's more likely that you're pushing your system beyond the
limits of its hardware. Half-Life is very graphics-intensive, are you sure
your card is up to it (on-board graphics just won't cut it).

I assume you're thinking of the new source engine. I can run that fine, my
GeForce FX 5600 runs it at about 75fps. I talking about the original
Half-Life engine, I ran it before with my ECS board before it fried. But ever
since I installed my new ASUS board I can't run it without geting these
errors. This applies to CS 1.6, DoD, etc.

Hi Chris,

First you should make sure you have the most updated driver for your
graphics card from the manufacturer. If your machine still does this after
that can you send me a dxdiag of your system and try to get a minidump of
the crash for me?

DXDIAG:
1. Click Start -> Run
2. Type "dxdiag" without the quotes and press Ok.
3. In the DirectX Diagnostic tool click "Save All Information..."

To determine what driver is causing the problem I need you to enable driver
verifier.
Steps:
1) Windows Key + R
2) Type in 'verifier' and hit enter
3) Make sure 'Create Standard Setting' is selected and hit next
4) Click on 'Select all drivers installed on this computer' and hit Finish
5) Reboot

There is a possibility that your computer will crash on reboot. If this
occurs hit F8 when rebooting just before the windows logo screen and select
the safe mode boot option. Follow the same steps above but on step 4 choose
'Select driver names from a list'; hit next; check the box next to any
driver where the provider is not Microsoft; hit Finish; reboot.

This will slow the performance of you computer a little while enabled but
will hopefully catch the driver causing corruption. Next time you crash
the blue screen will hopefully say something like
"DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION". If this occurs please send the
corresponding minidump (by default it is at c:\windows\Minidump ) my way.
If you have any questions or I didn't explain something well enough don't
hesitate to e-mail me back. Good Luck,

And did you look at the troubleshooting at that site I gave you?
