I cannot open my Macintosh word docs. on my PC.

I am using word 98 (classic OS9 runing on OSX) on the Mac and save as Word
6.0/95.

I put the file on a lexor jump drive to my Compaq Notebook running Win XP
and Word 2003. I am using Norrton Anti virus.

There is insufficent memory. Save the document now.
The file only contains boxes and this code W6BNMSWD

Hi suzywong -

Try this;

On the Mac save in regular Word 98 format but be sure to add the .doc
extension to the filename. There's nothing to gain & everything to lose by
saving in the older format (6.0/97).

Don't save directly to the jump drive - save to your Mac's HD, then copy or
move to the file to the jump drive. Likewise, don't try to open the file
directly from the jump drive (it sounds like this is what you are trying to
do) - copy or move to the Compaq HD, then use Word's File>Open command.

In fact, if you copy the existing file to the Compaq HD you *may* be able to
open it "as is", but the original conversion to 6.0/95 is totally
unnecessary & could be contributing to the problem. You can try by selecting
the "Word 6.0/95 for Windows and Macintosh" format from the 'Files of Type:'
list a the bottom of the Open File dialog but it may still not open the file
in a usable form.

Also, if you're going to be moving the file back & forth between 98 & '03,
you might do well to investigate '03's Compatibility Options. Otherwise you
may make changes in '03 that involve features *not* available/supported in
98 or *any* earlier Mac or PC version of Word.
