m130 Palm Pilot and Windows XP

Before I get flamed and told this is OT, and to go to the Palm
Pilot/handhelds groups and to the Palm web site support: I've been there
and done that, This is my last resort.

I've been trying to get a new Palm Pilot m130 with USB cradle to Hotsync
with a Dell Inspiration I8200 laptop model PP01X. The Palm Desktop software
is installed, the Hotsync is configured for USB, the handheld unit is
configured to transfer data from the cradle to the PC. When I try to
Hotsync, I get a message that connect could not be established between the
handheld and the PC. OK, so I check the USB ports on the laptop by plugging
in other peripherals, and they all work. I uninstall the USB port drivers,
and let Windows XP reinstall them on the next boot, and try again, the USB
ports work with other peripherals, but don't detect that anything has been
plugged into them when I plug in the USB cable from the Palm Pilot m130
Cradle. OK, so I uninstall the Palm Desktop software, and remove any keys
and strings from the Registry relating to Palm. Then I download and install
the latest version of the Palm Desktop software from the Palm website,
because its supposedly more Windows XP friendly. No change. When the USB
cable is plugged in, there isn't any action. Then to make sure that the
hardware itself doesn't have any problems: I installed the Palm Desktop
software to my desktop Dell Dimension 2400, and the moment I plugged the USB
cable into my desktop system, it was recognized, and the Hotsync began. So,
it isn't a hardware problem, and it isn't a problem with the Palm Desktop
software. I'm thinking that the laptop may have a component (no other USB
devices are plugged in), or driver that's proprietary to that Dell
Inspiration model, which conflicts with allowing the Windows XP to recognize
that a Palm Pilot m130 has been plugged into a USB port. Is my conclusion
logical? Does anyone have any other idea what the problem might be?

Is tha laptop in a docking bay? Some docking bays for laptops are so low
power, that they cannot work with some usb devices.
If you look on the bottom of the palm pilot cradle, there should be a 2 or
3 character code, what is it? Some of those usb cradles for the palm were
recalled.
Is there a OS firmware update for the palm?
Have you tried reinstalling chapura on the laptop (if you sync with outlook)?
Have you tried soft and hard resets with the palm?
Good luck.

Windows XP crashed.
I am the Blue Screen of Death.
No one hears your screams.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.

My wife and I have two different laptops , hers a new Gateway with an old Visor prism handheld and hotsync, and mine, a desknote laptop 928 with a Cassiopeia e200 using Windows CE.

They both sync'd on Windows 9
We both now have Windows X

Is their anything that can interfere with the USB connection? Like a cordless phone or cords to close to each other.
At least mine was working for a while on XP, but now it can't find it

Thank you for your help

Have you tried soft and hard resets on the palm/CE device?

Have you verified that this usb port(s) work with another device?

Are the connection settings in the palm/CE set for local usb?

Try these things and post back.
