I just loaded Windows XP Professional and now my modem
will only run at 19.2 kbps. It used to run at 52k when I
was running ME.

Any suggestions?

I appreciate it!

You might want to check inside Network Connections, under your
particular connection, to see if Windows XP is recognizing your
specific modem correctly. If it isn't too old, download the XP
drivers from the site of the company that made it.

Lucent doesn't have a driver for XP - just 98, ME and 2000. Oh and NT
(Itried all of those....nope, no go). Does this mean that I should replace
the modem? If so, what would you recommend?

I've found US Robotics modems good, but they are a bit expensive.

I wouldn't give up on your modem too quickly, since it's probably
only a matter of finding and installing the correct driver.

Have you tried removing all traces of the modem from Device
Manager, turning off the computer, taking out the modem card,
rebooting, turning off the computer, replacing the modem card,
rebooting, and allowing XP to find the correct driver? If XP knows
that there is a modem installed, it should be able to locate a
driver for it.
