Hey all

I am having an lsass.exe error, running windows xp pro on a home computer, not as a server. I have checked & checked & checked for worms, and nothing is ever found, using the latest virus defs & using internet scanners, etc

I have referenced & done everything on these microsoft pages

http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser_printxp.as

http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.asp <--- says my computer is NOT INFECTED, yet I still get the shutdown everytime after doing the complete process explained through these two pages

I am getting it with the error -1066598274. I do not see any other reference to this one

Thanks for any help!

lsass.exe Windows Local Security Authority Server Process handles Windows
security mechanisms. It verifies the validity of user logons to your
computer or server. Technically, the software generates the process that is
responsible for authenticating users for the Winlogon service.
The saser worm can attack this file, or it can, like all files unexpectedly
go bad.
If the file is corrupted, I think your only option is a clean install of XP

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I have done that. I have tried using an old copy of XP home I have & a new copy of Pro. Both are resulting in this error. I have tried complete disk reformat, etc. With a total of about 40 installs on 3 total HDDs, I have yet to get a copy with updates from Windows Update site without this crash

If I stay with a base version from the CD, no error, BUT!!! I get crashes from all over while using other programs
