lsass.exe and booting problem

I recently had a problem with the file lsass.exe, and being the idiot that I
am I tried to fix it before searching out what the problem might have been.
I renamed the file (thinking it was a virus/worm/trojan) to lsass.bak which
was located in three locations, the only one I took note of was
c:\windows\system32

Now, after research, I know this may actually be a worm called Sasser that
affects the lsass.exe causing it to shutdown the computer. This can be
aborted by typing "shutdown -a" in the run dialog box, then you can
disconnect from the internet and fix it.

My problem is now my computer will not boot. It boots up to a black screen
with just a mouse pointer, just like the Microsoft site discusses. I was
going to use my brand new Windows XP disk to do a system reinstall but that
is causing problems too. Any time I boot with the cd in my system I get to
the screen with the options to press "Enter" to install XP. R to go to the
recovery (or restore console) and if I try EITHER of these, the computer
loads a few files then says "Starting windows" and the computer shut's down.

I think this may have to do with lsass.exe now missing (since it's be
renamed to lsass.bak). I downloaded the "Ultimate Boot CD vers 2.31" but
haven't been able to find a utility to let me rename that file. Is there any
one or any thing out there that can help rename that file to see if that
will allow me to reinstall XP? It needs to be a CD based boot disk/problem
solver because the only maching I have up and running right now is my laptop
which is without a floppy drive. Thanks for any help you all can provide.
Let me know if you need more info.

Any one at all that can help with this one please? I just need the name of a
program or site for a boot disk that will allow me to access DOS on this
computer.

Thanks,
Chris

I tried there but unfortunately the only cd images they have are for the XP
setup/install process. This doesn't work because the computer shuts itself
down during that process or any other that involves starting Windows. I just
need a normal disk to get me to DOS, so that I can rename the file. The
problem is that it has to be a cd image because I have no way to create a
floppy.

Thanks though,
Chris
