Hi there heres the summary:
My Windows XP Home Edition SP2 ceases to load at the desktop screen with the
following error:
lsass.exe Object Name Not Found (lowercase "l" in lsass.exe)
Hitting OK restarts machine & the cycle continues.
This is the THIRD time I have had this error in a fortnight. I have googled,
searched the support forums and the only solution that has worked is for me
to:
Attempt to repair windows using the Compaq XP Home Edition (Sp1) disk but
whilst windows appears to succesfully repair, the error simply appears again
as the desktop loads. (I do not get a Service Pack 1 / Service Pack 2
compatibility error).
As a result I run chkdsk (no disk errors are found) , fully format and then
use my Compaq Factory Restore disks to fresh install XP.
I am simply at wits end as it takes me at least two days to reconfigure all
my many photography related programs etc and am sick of the whole process!
I am considering buying a new laptop but hoping there might be one last
solution...
Points to note:
I have fully uptodate antivirus (AVG) and ZoneAlarm Pro firewall (set for
highest securiy) running.
I scan DAILY for spyware etc and even ran MS Malicious Software removal tool
- clearly to no avail.
My Home Edition XP is kept uptodate with automatic updates.
My flatmate's computer is on the same homoe broadband network (our router
has its own firewall as well) and his computer has not recieved any threats
of this nature.
The first time this error occured I used a Koppix Linux bootable disc to
access my harddrive and replace the lsass.exe file with another - this did
not rectify the problem.
All my data is intact and can be backed up using Koppix.
System Restore is enabled but I cannot access windows to try a restore reset
either obviously.
The system is a 3 1/2 year old Compaq Presario 2500 laptop with a harddisk
that is apprx 2 years old, P4 2.8ghz , 708MB of RAM, 40GB HD. I do not
usually recieve any other errors and the machine works very very well (no
lags , crashes etc).
Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated...and might save me $$$
buying a new laptop!
Many thanks - Jess
