Hello.!

I have win xp machine, in my proxy configuration I have a
lot of open ports (more than 100) and the client of this
ports is msmsgs.
If I delete all of it, and open messenger again some ports
are open again. but if I close and open again, another
ports are open and the old ports never close.
Please, somebody know what happen?

Thank You,
Guillermo

Greetings Guillermo,

Although this is regular (for the ports to be opened), they should be removing themselves and
you really shouldn't have as many as 100+.

On the client PC(s), check to see if DirectX 9 installed (it may have been installed with a
game or demo). To check, click Start, then Run, enter "dxdiag" and click OK. In the first
window that appears, you'll see "DirectX version" listed, if it's 9, then upgrade to DirectX
9a:

Also if the client PC(s) are running Norton Antivirus 2003, Norton added a new "instant
messaging scanning" feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and
cause this behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus
icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'),
click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.
