Lost user profile due to O/I operation initiated by registry failu

I had a new computer built a month ago and I got my old hard drive put in as
a storage drive, this caused conflicts and windows hung up on start up. I
have eventually got my computer working as it should. The hard drive was
removed and seemed to be working. The (applications)events log tells me that
I have had lots of problems with it.

I tried to install the dirves for the PCI and Vga , but it said I already
had them installed. But I still have no sound, and according to device manage
they are not loaded. This Would explain the problem of my profile not
loading now. As I had the drives working originally. This is the error
message I am getting now on the events log.:
This occured while it was being fixed.

'Windows saved user (NICKY-*********\Nicky) registry while an application or
service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the
user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is
no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring
the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.'

Then this is the lastest.
I have now got this back.

'Windows was unable to load the registry. This is often caused by
insufficient memory or insufficient security rights.

DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably.
The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that
contain the system's image of the registry. '

The Systems log has identified an error: The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D,
has a bad block. (same time as the other errors)

Could anyone help? Is is something to do with disk(damaged- still loads and
works though (not as I want it too), memory? Is it worth reformatting the
whole disk and starting a fresh, now I have got rid of the old hard drive
which was causing problems. ( I would probably have to get good advice on
how to do this mind!). Just doing a clean install, doesn't seem to be doing
anything. Or is there a way of retriving my orignal profile without all this?

yep, format and reinstall.

you stated that a clean install didn't seem to be doing anything, please
give details.

Did you already attempt this? and if you would please list the steps you
took.

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought I should have done this a couple of
weeks ago, but was unsure it would make any difference. I figured this time
that if there are errors, they will be erased , so I can make a clean start.

Orignally when I reinstalled Windows, I did this from the recovery console,
because the pc was attempting to boot from either of the hard drives and
causing problems, even after I disconnected the old hard drive which I had
fully formatted. I was never really able to start up the PC at all, it just
hung, then I had the blue death stop error screens, registry failure, missing
system32/config.info. It worked initally after set up, but the next time I
booted it up, it went back to the old error.

I got slightly fed up with this, so after I posted this. I realised I had
lost any admin rights I had and I tried to create another administrative
rights account, hoping I would gain the privlilages I should have and I
started to load the drivers, which started well and then it completing slowed
down and restarted itself. I tried to start up again and nada!! It just
hung on start up again and I went into the recovery console to CHKDSK /R and
ended up quick formatting it.

I have managed to loads windows again and the drivers on the disk. I will
now download windows updates (service pack 3, then go to the manufactures web
site to check I have all the drivers. One by one from now, to check they are
not causing the problems. I will starting loading itunes and windows live
one when I know it is working. The progrmames will be put one one by one and
hopefully I will have a fully functioning PC!! I am a inspired computer
technician,so this is proving to be valuable experince with regards to
gaining that MCDST exam I started ages ago.

My Pc is functioning now, but I will keep an eye on the events log to see
whats going on with it. It is working fast as it should for now. I will
make sure I make a note of what I put on it and if it goes again, I know what
is causing problems.
