"Lost" User Name at Login Screen

My User Name quit showing on the right side of the Log On
screen. As the only user, "To begin, click your user
name" with no user name showing means I can't open Windows
or get to anything on my computer. Help???

This occurred when I decided to shut down my computer
while it was "stuck" trying to download pictures from my
camera. When I restarted the computer, my user name was
gone.

HP tried everything to help. Microsoft won't help since
my Windows XP came with the computer. I can't get to
anything on the computer -- and I have tried everything
but doing a full restore -- which would erase a lot of
data that I have not backed up.

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete twice at the welcome screen.

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete twice at the welcome screen,
(as stated in previous post), this will get you on as a
Guest. Then restore system, to an earlier date, when you
could log on. This worked for me!
