lost sound

Hello all
this is really odd since it happened just like that, i've tried system
restore, resest sound system, even system restore but it didn't work!

Now here is the problme
you know when you use the sound indcator in system tray when you click on it
there is this nice sound which told you how far did you go with you sound,
well I've lost that the sound in is comimg form the PC's speaker, I've tried
this rick on Kelly website but it didn't work.

any suggestions...

have you tried databaseben's suggestions?

you can run dxdiag for testing
you can run msinfo32 for device conflicts
