Lost sound

Yes, Hello. I've recently lost all volume on my computer out of the blue, for
unknown reasons. I first noticed it when I went to listen to a song on
Windows Media Player and there was no sound. So, I increased the volume
level- No sound. I made certain that the mute button hadn't been turned on-
Still no sound. Then I began to think it was my speakers, so I plugged in a
pair of headphones, and still got no sign of volume. I restarted the computer
several times, and even began running some of my ad-aware programs- And still
I have no volume; Period.

Could someone possibly give me some guidence here? I would be very
apperciative.

First you need to verify that the system still has a detected/active
sound device. Go to Control Panel (Classic View), Sounds applet.
Click the Audio (TAB). Make sure a device appears in the default
device box. If "None" appears then your sound card is not found
and may be driver related (Check Device Manager). If a device is
shown, click the Volume button. It should open the expanded view
of the volume sliders. Make sure that Wave isn't muted and that
both Wave and Master are set to at least 45%.
Obvious stuff still applies - Power to Speakers, turned on and
plugs or jacks that may have come loose.

Sound card could have gone bad. Or perhaps your system just lost the
drivers for it. Happens. First step is to put in the drivers again.
