Following what appeared to be a successful move of a user pst file I opened
Outlook to reconfigure. The file was not there not on the network share not
in the users default path. So no big deal I cranked up my trusty file
recovery tools while logged in as domain admin and in safe mode. Ran file
recovery found allot of files just not the on that I’m looking for. Ok so now
I am a little freaked I have never had this problem before. Why is that I
can’t recover this file? The file was last a 539mb Outlook 2003 pst.

Never cut and paste. Always copy, paste, verify then delete.

You moved it from his desktop to a network share?

Surely the file is backed up. Get it back from your backup medium.

Yes that is true. Here is my delima, I cant find the deleted file using any
of my recovery tools. The workstation is xp sp2 this as far as I can tell is
a new behavior. Another strange thing the recovery tools that I normally use
are not behaving as they have in the past when recovering user data. The
tools are not detecting deleted files as they have in the past.

Ok lets take our ADD midicine and read my post again.
I am loking for a solution to the stated problem. The os is 2000 server and
xp sp2.

Please read my initial post and respond with solutions to the stated problem.
Thanks
Ras

I don't know what "ADD midicine" is but you must immediately stop all drive
activity to have any hope of recovery. Box it then send it off to one of the
drive recovery services.

Send the disk is for data recovery before you make it worse. This procedure
can be done for under 1000 dollars. Decide if the PST file is worth that
much money to your business.

He means something like Ritalin - Attention Deficit Disorder medicine.

His response was OTT but he is no doubt a little frustrated.

Cheers,

Occasionally there are situations that do not have a solution,
other than serving as a harsh reminder about what should
have been done in the past. This may be one of them: the
need to back up a key customer file on a regular basis.
