lost outlook express folders

I had a hard disc failure and am using data recovery software to try and
transfer my old outlook express folders over to my new drive. Using explorer
I have located Outlook express but can't see any folder files. I believe they
are .dbx.
Can anyone tell me where they are backed up?

You could try here:
<Drive Letter>:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{alphanumeric GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

If I'm not mistaken, either Local Settings or Application Data (or both) is
a hidden folder.

Hi Patti
Thanks for that, I have found all the .dbx folders that I am needing. The
folder sizes indicate that they contain all my emails.
Unfortunately, I tried - using explorer - dragging them to the Outlook
Express folder. They went in OK and I see them within the programme folder
but when use Outlook Express the folders don't seem to have opened and none
of the emails are displayed. Have you any suggestion where I have gone wrong?

Did you copy them to the Outlook Express folder in the similar path on your
new drive? For example, if your new drive is drive D, then you should be
moving them to:
D:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{alphanumeric GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Hi.
I hadn't actually! I had simply dragged them to the entry under programme
files.
However I have tried your suggestion of putting them back the way I found
them - pretty obvious when you mention it. But once again no luck.
I haven't tried it for obvious reasons - but I was wondering if I used the
file path you suggested if I could simply delete the whole Outlook Express
folder and contents on my new drive and drag over the same folder from my
recovered drive - or will I end up worse than I started???
