lost network connection

Have experienced a problem recently with a lost internet
connection after the computer has been idle for a while.
Only rebooting restores connection. Both mail and
internet affected. Using LAN w/ cable modem.

Running Xp Pro and IE 6.0, all updated.

Just prior to experienceing this problem (about one week
ago)I downloaded and installed the most recent suggested
patch for I.E. Could this have somethign to do with
problem?
 
I am having the same problem however I have to reboot the cable modem and router to make mine work
