lost my ie

After opening an email all signs of shorcuts to ie have
disappeared from my desktop how can I restore? I have
tryed to locate source files but have had no luck and all
associated ie icons have turned to generic windows icon

Your Icon cache may be damaged.

How to use a .reg file to increase the Icon Cache
The Icon Cache in Win 95/98 can be enlarged. You can use the following. Copy
the lines below,
first line "REGEDIT4", last line to include just above asterisks. Past into
a new NotePad file
and save as "MaxIcons.REG" (including quotes.) Execute. Note that if you've
got it copied
correctly, when you run the cursor all the way down, it should have an empty
line above it.
Required.

After enlarging the Icon cache, then run Find, locate ShellIconCache, and
delete it.
Then reboot.The Icon cache should be all healthy now.
