I wanted to upgrade my onboard sound so I installed a PCI sound card and
added the software.
Seemed to work ok until reboot took ages, black screen, would not boot.
Suspecting a clash with the onboard sound I went into BIOS, disabled the
onboard sound.
Seemed to work ok, until reboot etc.
Enabled onboard sound, returned to a presaved Restore point.
Boot up fine but no sound whatsoever. Looked at onboard etc and though it
reports it as working ok it shows the location of drivers as unknown and the
onboard sound is not shown as selected, something about Line1#.
What needs doing, and where can I find these missing drivers, if that's what
it's about?
TIA

Best option, Remove new hardware leaving on board sound disabled and
reboot, so sound hardware is no longer recognised.
Then shutdown install the new hardware and reboot

Windows should now find the new hardware and attempt to look for the
drivers, if it cant find any then it will ask you for a location.
put in the driver cd and point the hardware wizard to it.
optionally cancel the hardware wizard and run the cd manually.

see how you get on
