Hi I am requesting assistance regarding an issue. I had
received a New Dell laptop with Windows ME installed and
a coupon for an upgrade to Windows Xp Home Edition, sent
the coupon and received my XP Home Edition upgrade. I
have moved from one location to another and lost the key
or CD cover with the Key number. I do still have the
legal CD.
I did call Dell for assistance but I was told that I
would have to contact Microsoft for assistance. Is it
possible to be provided with a new key, or is there a way
of locating it on the installation disk??? Is there a
number I can call??

Thanks in advance

Charles

No, Windows ME is running on my machine. I did get the
chance to install it before I moved. Now I can't locate
the key.

How to Uncover WindowsXP Product Key?

http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

Thanks for the reply, but my issue is that XP has never
been installed on the machine. Key will not be found. I
am currently running Windows ME. Is there a way to
request a new key if I provide somehow proof that its a
legal version?? Not sure what to do.

I hate to sound suspicious, but, you took a CD out of its packaging and did
not use it, then threw the packaging away. Worse yet, you have no receipt,
since you got it with a coupon. I am not Microsoft, but I will be happy to
tell you what they will say. Just ask ne.

Greetings --

Only Dell can help you with the Product Key for the OS they
provided.

As you did the upgrade yourself, get the free Aida 32, enterprise
edition from
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32
which is an excellent general System Info tool, and its Software -
Licenses page will tell you the one used for Windows and ones for
several other items.

Note that if the machine came with XP installed, this will probably give
a key used in producing an original image, then cloned to all machines
they make. So it is not the one for a reinstall. But that is not your
case, though it would apply to the ME installed when it came
