Lost Icon on taskbar

My father has just got a new dell computer with dial-up connection. All is
working fine but there is no dial-up icon on the taskbar so you cant see if
you are on-line (without "digging"!). Does anyone know how to get that icon
back on the task bar - preferably easily!!
Many thanks

If this is a standard DUN connection:
Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections tab > Your ISP >
Settings > Properties > Tick the check box at the bottom.

Also available via Control Panel > Network > Your ISP > right click >
Properties (items translated on-the-fly).

Go to Network Connections. Right click on the icon for the dial-up
connection and select Properties. At the bottom of the General page, place
a check next to "show icon in notification area when connected."
