Lost Help in Outlook Express

A

Allen L.

Operation system is WinXP with SP2...when trying to access "Help" in Outlook
Express, by F1 key or the 'Help" at top, I get an error box that states
"...must close...", this is the short form of the error message.

AppName: msimn.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: itircl.dll
ModVer: 5.2.3790.1159 Offset: 00008034

There are lots more codes to follow if clicked on "Detail", but too long to
post.

Used SFC to scan CD and all seemed fine. Am really stumped and don't wish to
reinstall WinXp.

Even tried the unistall of Int.Explorer and Outlook Express in MS help
pages, and re-installed SP2, but no joy.

Thanks for any help or pointers,

Allen

Hi,

Reinstall just Outlook Express. Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options/View
tab, set it to "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected
operating system files [recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for
known file types".

Then, open Windows Explorer from Start/All Programs and go to the
C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the msoe50.inf file, right-click it and choose
install.

You may need to either insert your WinXP CD or know where your I386 folder
is located on the hard drive. You may also need to know where the
\ServicePackFiles folder is (usually under the Windows directory).

Well, Rick it looked as if everything was going A-OK, but no joy...same
message ;o(

Any more ideas, as I've about run out of them...like I said below, I've
installed Outlook Express your way, and the way (through the regedit
instructions from Microsoft) and neither one seemed to work. I've been
running this machine for about 3 years, so I guess I'm in for a re-install.
I'm slipstreaming SP2 now...it you get anymore suggestions, I could really
use one...hate to do a re-install!

Thanks for the try,

Allen

Hi,

The .dll file may have damaged registry information, click start/run, type
"regsvr32 itirgl.dll" and click ok. You should get a successful message if
the file is not damaged. See if this helps.

Well, looks like I need a reinstall as I got a successful message on the
last suggestion. Something weird I probably did with some install &
uninstall by cleaning up the registry a little too aggressively. Well here
goes a format and a reinstall...my wife uses this computer now, so doesn't
need all the programs, so shouldn't be that bad.

Thanks loads for the attempt Rick. You gave it a good shot as it *was* a
weird thing to happen.

Hi Allen,

Just an additional note: You shouldn't use registry cleaners in WinXP,
there's no need for them and, as you now know, the damage they can do is
sometimes irreparable.
