Lost folders when recreating accounts with Outlook Connector

Using Outlook 2003, I had placed a subfolder full of saved emails into the
general folder for a hotmail account I was accessing through Outlook
Connector. I had to delete and recreate the hotmail account in Outlook due to
some problems. When I erased the hotmail account in Outlook, the subfolder
disappeared with it, and has not reappeared since I reinstalled the hotmail
account. Any idea where those saved emails went? were they deleted and is
there any way to retrieve them? Let me note that these were not emails
received through that hotmail account; there were from another account and I
had just placed them in there.
Thanks for any ideas!

If you log into Hotmail via the web interface can you see the subfolder?

No, it's not there either. Although the more recent subfolders I created in
Outlook are in the web-based hotmail account. I didn't realize Connector sent
items both ways, that is very interesting!
