Lost Files

I had been preparing some information for a land planner. I save some .gif
and .jpeg files to a My Documents folder. I then decided to create a folder
within the floder. I transfered about 12 files to the sub folder using
highlight and move in explore. when I tried to open the folder it only shows
that one file is in the folder.

The balance of the transfered files are missing from the parent folder.

Can I retrieve the missing files? How?
 
Can you do a search and see if they somehow ended up somewhere else?

I read some other post on lost files, which gave me an idea. I found the
files.
Wierd, I have dragged many files into other folder, but never had one not
show what was dragged. One file of 12 showed, and the parent file was emptied
of the dragged files. I do't know, but i did find the missing files. All is
well in Texas.
