Lost files and computer screwed Help!!

I really need some help!! I took out the electricity cable without putting in
the laptop battery and then when I restarted the laptop, my screensaver was
gone, all my desktop files gone, all my favourites on internet explorer gone,
cant seem to play my video files on windows media player anymore. How can I
get back my files??!! I'm not very good with computers so I really need
someone to help me...

I tried but it didnt work. The programmes are fine but the files I saved on
the desktop are gone!! My favourites on internet explorer also arent there
anymore. Any way else I can fix this??

You say "files" on my desktop?

Are they actual files/folders or shortcuts?
short cuts can be recreated.

Anything not located in My Documents has a good chance of being lost on a
system blurp.

Is the Favorites folder still under document and settings>username in my
computer?

They were actual files I saved on the desktop and not anywhere else. I guess
there is no way to retrieve it right?

There not in Recycle Bin?

Maybe some kind of data recovery software if done in "real" near future. So
that hard drive space containing files is not overwritten.
Google for data recovery software.

Seems like your data was erased. So you can try Active@ undelete or
Uneraser (DOS) data recovery tools to bring lost data back. This soft
worked great for me in a simmilar situation, so you should definately
try it out.
