HELP!, I have u/dated f/ware for my MSI dr4a dvd rewriter via MSI live update (ver 2.60), when rebooting , I find I have lost both drives.
Does not detect either drive on boot, have tried following to rectify:-
uninstalled primary, secondary IDE controllers,
tried reg hack found on xp support pages.
emailed MSI ( no response yet)
Obviously, I cant re-insall, repair OS ( wish I,d stored on H/D other users take note, put a copy of inst cd onto h/d!
thanks in anticipation

Have you tried a system restore to a point before updating firmware?

Thanks for reply, sory to take so long to respond to your kind advice, i work 3 days on 3days off 12 hour days.
Tried the clear cmos, didnt get my drives back, however, I did manage to get an LG dvd drive to work in windows, its strange, its not detected in POST, it IS rcognised in bios options, it shows as d in my computer, it shows under unknown device in device manager, very strange!.
Anymore ideas, Ive blasted MSI , and taken advice fron Asrock, my M/B maker, not a lot of help yet though.
Once again thanks, I dont know if theres anything else I can do?.

If you right-click My Computer, then select Manage, then expand the Storage
section in the left pane, then click the Disk Manager folder --- do they
show up there? Do they each have a drive letter? Right-click to assign a
drive letter. If they do not show up there, then ...

Do they show up in Device Manager? If so but with associated device errors
then uninstall the driver for each and without rebooting re-install them,
then reboot.

Did that help?

Thanks for suggestion Winguy, it does show under manage discs with drive letter D, I have also installed drivers for drive.
It is still showing as "unknown device" in device manager. Its not ideal as I have lost my dvd and cd writer, however, at least I can put a copy of OS, and h/ware drivers on H/D.
There is one"funny" though, d drive still not detected in POST,but is in bios options, and it does look for bootable cd!.
Thanks again.

MSI advises deleting driver then rebooting so system can search for new
driver. I did it and lost not only access to my DC/DVD drive but the ADD
SOFTWARE icon in the control panel. Any ideas?
