lost contents of inbox

Office 2007 user, got a message that there was an error in my inbox and told
to use inbox repair tool. Tried to use it but could not locate a .pst
folder, any ideas how I can find the contents of my inbox? I know they are
still on the hard drive as I can 'search desktop' for any I know the contents
of etc.

Enable searching hidden files/folders - the .pst file is a hidden file.

Thank you Milly for the reply, which I tried and found two .pst files
both of which were old files contained in backups. I wonder is the .pst
gone entirely fromt the system and should I download a new version?

After some 'googling' regarding .pst, I made a new .pst file in the data
management file, isolated it, popped it into the scanpst.exe and it seems to
have worked, have all my old emails back as far as I can see.
