Lost CD drives

XP Pro crashed. Then during reboot it checked the C drive for errors and found some, truncating files.
After that I had no CD drives in my Windows Explorer.
I had just installed Iomega's DVD drivers. It crashed during the last part of that.
During reboot it said a DVD driver was going to make the system unstable, so it would not allow it to load.
I uninstalled all the Iomega software. No good. I deleted the devices from the Device Manager and let XP re-find them. The always come up with yellow Xs and say the cannot be loaded.
I have installed Service Pak 1a hoping that would restore the files.

My last hope was to re-install XP as an upgrade, but I can't do that without a working CD.
Can anyone suggest anything ?

I had similar problem. Possibly try Device Driver Roll
Back which would reinstall your cd drive and restore
settings that were changed when you added a new drive.
for more info look in Help and Support Center under To
Roll back to the previous version of a driver.

Or you can always do a System Restore to return you to
previous settings before you tried downloading and
attempt again.

hope it helps.
