Lost audio-file play buttons from explorer-bar area...

On install of XP, when a .WAV file was highlighted in a
standard folder, one of the automatically available tasks
was an explorer-bar play button that would immediately
(without spawning a MediaPlayer window) begin to play the
audio of the file.

I installed a utility (BrookTrout Prompt Studio) that took
over as the default app for .WAV files. I fixed that
association, reset it to Media Player ... BUT the nifty
little set of buttons is now gone from my explorer bar.
Not a crippling loss - but those suckers were handy.

Not sure what app Explorer was "really" using to play.
Possibly same portion of WinXP that plays other system
sounds. Anyone have any guesses as to how to restore this
functionality?

Win XP Pro, SP1, current with patches. Media Player
9.00.00.3008, for what that's worth. Dell Inspiron 8000,
builtin ESS Maestro PCI audio "soundcard", also current
drivers.

Allen;
Try this: Open the folder that contains your music (My Music?) on the top
Toolbar, toggle the folders button/in the left hand pane you should see Music
Tasks/Play All.
Click Tools/Folder Options/General tab, under Tasks, make sure "Show common
tasks in folders" is selected/Apply/OK.
Or you can right click a .wav file and click Play.
Hope this helps. Let us know.

"Play All" is indeed present in a folder that contains
exclusively music / .WAV files ... that's not the concern.
Also, "show common tasks in folders" is indeed asserted.
And yes, I can spawn the Media Player with a right-
click/Play. No problem there. HOWEVER ... that's not quite
what I'm looking for.

Maybe the best way to put it is this: I presume the applet
under "common tasks" that WAS defaulted to be available
when the selected file was a .WAV has somehow been
deregistered as a common task appropriate to .WAV files.
What I'm looking for is WHAT applet that is and WHERE/HOW
to reassert it as an available "common task". Does that
make sense?

THANKS for any attempts to help me with this.

Allen;
I don't have any more help. I would suggest that you repost your original
question, modified with the info from this one. That way maybe someone who
knows the answer(s) will see it this time. I promise not to interfere.
Or maybe post @ microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
