Lost all Mouse & Pointer capability after installation and attemptedremoval of Intellimouse

Help,

I'm totally without a mouse or a pointing device.

Here's what happened:

1) it was working after installing Windows 2000, then one of my
associates suggested I try the Microsoft Intellimouse that we had available,

2) I had a problem with it since it did not actually allow me to use a
certain feature of the mouse, so

3) I installed another mouse system from Logitech, and when this didn't
work,

4) I tried to uninstall the Microsoft Intellimouse, using the Control
Panel, but was unsuccessful... got a message about not having enough
rights to uninstall some .DLL file (though I tried my personal account
with Administrator rights, as well as the Administrator). My search
for this file showed that the .DLL file was not on the system.

5) I was able to uninstall the Logitech mouse software anyway.

6) I tried to reinstall the Microsoft Intellimouse, but that was also
not successful, as the system stated that it was not possible to install
as it was already installed.

7) I did about a 1/2 day of searching on Saturday for any information
about solving this problem... with no hits.

8) I finally found some instructions on one of my many trips through the
information base which led me to:
http://www.jsiinc.com/suba/tip0000/rh0034.htm
(0034 » Uninstall apps without Add/Remove or an uninstall program)

9) I followed these instructions, since I could not find any means of
uninstalling the Microsoft Intellimouse. I thought if I uninstalled
it, then perhaps it would let me install a new mouse... instead :

10) I ended up with a system without a mouse pointer at all. I am doing
all my work without a mouse at this point and wonder if someone would
please help me figure out how to get the mouse feature re-enabled in my
registry.

Thanks

Check Event Viewer for errors and Device Manager for errors and or
non-starting devices. Possibly try updating the current pointing device
driver.
