Lost all Internet!

I currently have NTl modem and my computer connected directly to my router
and another connected wirelessly. I have lost all internet connection - and I
think it could have been after I installed service pack 2. I still have my
local area network (this is through my mobo) but there is no internet! If I
click repair then there is a box that appears saying somthing like "could not
finish repair, renew ip address" and another one about my network address.
Can anybody help me?
 
Whats ping? How do I ' ping ' Is there any reason why this happened. I had
sp2 on here fine before, wiped hard drive, installed and now its failed!
