lost administrator account

when we set up our kids computer, we set up the admn accnt for parental
control reasons and then set up the user account for the kids. Now, when we
go to user accounts in the control panel, the only account that shows up is
the kids account. I need to find out how to locate the admn account on this
computer. any ideas?

The password for the built in Windows Administrator account is normally
blank (none).

In XP Home, boot the computer into Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly tapping
the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to the right
menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not work here. Once
in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden Administrator account. The
default password is a blank.

In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen, do
Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in
"Administrator" and whatever password you assigned (default is no password)
when you set up Windows.

Once your in then:
Start/Run/type in:Control Userpasswords2 and press OK

You apparently were using the built-in Administrator account for your
everyday work (not recommended) and you have XP Pro. By design, when you
create another account that has administrative privileges the built-in
Administrator account is hidden. The best solution would be to create a
new account for your own work and then copy the Administrator account to
it since it has all your stuff.

If my assumption about the version of your XP is correct, then at the
Welcome Screen do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice. This will get you to the classic
logon box. Type "Administrator" (without the quotes) for the username
and whatever password you assigned. If you didn't assign a password,
leave it blank.

Now go to the User Accounts applet in Control Panel and make your new
user account. Log into it once. Now log out and log into a third user
account - the kids' account will work as long as it has administrative
privileges. Or make another extra account from which to work; it never
hurts to have an extra administrative user account anyway. Then follow
these directions:

Copy a User Account - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=811151

If this is *not* what you did and you only have XP Home, then to access
the built-in Administrator account you must go into Safe Mode. Tap the
F8 key repeatedly as the computer is starting up to get to Safe Mode.
Then follow the rest of the instructions.

In WinXP Pro, one a second admin-level account is defined, the
Administrator account gets hidden in the Welcome Screen (which I never
use and configure to always show the regular login screen without all
the fluff crap).

In WinXP Home, you have to reboot into Safe Mode to get at any of the
admin-level accounts, including the default Administrator account.
