Lost ability to restore computer to previous settings

Attempts to restore my computer to previous settings, I
continue to incur the following error message -
"RSTRUI.exe - Entry Point Not Found - The procedure entry
point RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be
located in the Dynamic Link Library WINSTA.dll" Tried all
paths to the restore file but all attempts fail with the
same error message. Tried to extract file from
installation disk, no luck, then reinstalled Windows XP,
but that didn't work either...HELP!

Entry Point Not Found:
The procedure entry point RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be
located in the Dynamic Link Library winsta.dll
Do a search for the sr.inf file which is normally located in C:\windows.
Make sure you search hidden files in your search criteria.
Right-click on the sr.inf file and select the install option

After you reinstalled XP, did you update it with SP1a? Did you have SP1a
installed before you reinstalled? This error can happen after a reinstall
(repair install) if you had SP1a installed. To explain a bit more, the
reinstall or repair of XP takes the system back to the original files from
the CD, which removes all updates.
