As this happened after adding the memory, best bet would be that you have
loosened a connection at some point. If you have a seperate sound card,
start by 'reseating' it and then move on to any other connections from the
cpu to the speakers....primarily those at the back of the cpu.

Adding memory should have no effect whatsoever on the sound. Are you sure
you reconnected the speakers properly? If so and if you paid someone to add
the memory, take it back and get him to fix whatever he screwed up. Chances
are it's just a connection that got loosened while the case was open, but
it should be his responsibility to fix his errors, not yours.
Do you have the little speaker icon displayed in your system tray?
Double-click it and make sure the sound isn't muted or turned all the
way down. Sometimes when I work on a customer's computer I'll turn down
the sound if they have an annoying sound scheme. Also, make sure you
plugged the speakers into the light green port on the back of your
computer. Whatever the cause, it's almost surely something simple.
