Loss of resolution quality in .avi movie

I'm working on a presentation using embedded .avi movies. These movies were
created from screen captures of software demos & contain a fair amount of
on-screen text. The movies play back at a very acceptable resolution inside
Windows Media Player but when I place them inside of Powerpoint, the playback
quality is seriously downgraded. I do realize there may be some limitations
with the quality I can expect for this type of content but there must be some
way to optimize the quality of the movies for playback within PowerPoint. I
have not been scaling the movies once placed or changing the picture size
settings - just using the default settings PowerPoint applies when I link to
the movie files.


Does anyone have suggestions or tips on how to pinpoint how to improve the
playback quality?

Maybe you should. I'm guessing it's tooo small. Have you tried scaling the
movie clip (in powerpoint) to fill the screen. Just click the clip and drag
the corner handles to keep your movie in proportion.

Actually - I have tried to scale up & down in size and the quality still
appears the same. One of the strange things is - the movie in its non-active
state shows a picture that looks like the original resolution. When the
movie begins to play is when the pixels start to drop out.

Tried you add in - made a difference to the text within many of the movies I
had issues with. There is still a significant quality difference between the
original .avi file when I play back in Windows Media Player vs. the imbedded
movie but I've got better results than in using the native PowerPoint Insert
Movie command.

I am having the same problem that AliMarie is having. The difference is that
my movies were working great until last week. The only thing that I did to
my computer at the time of the change was remove a small video game that my
son was using. It used QuickTime, though.

The movie clips work just fine in WMP. The first frame looks OK in PPT,
but when it starts the quality goes very bad.

Please help.
