avi movies only play in full screen option (Powerpoint 2003)

I don't see this problem in prior posts. I insert avi movies into powerpoint
2003. The movies will play fine if I choose "play full screen" option, but
won't play within the square on the powerpoint slide, which I desire. The
avi movies work find in windows media player, file pathway is short (<30
characters), avi file is in same folder as powerpoint presentation, my
computer appears to have the required codec (MS MPEG4 V2). With the
previous powerpoint 97, I was able to play the movie in within the slide of
the powerpoint presentation, without full screen. Can anyone help?

Couple of thoughts,

I suspect you may need to upgrade your video card driver and/or may need to
reduce your video hardware acceleration.

If that doesn't do the trick, give www.pfcmedia.com a try. (Free trial
download.)

Thanks Austin. Sorry for my ignorance, but is the video card driver hardware
or software? How would I updgrade it; a software download from where? How
do I reduce the video hardware acceleration?

I was able to solve this problem. I downloaded a free utility called Rad
Video tools that contains utilities called "Bink" and "Smacker".
(www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm.). With this utility, there is a "Convert
a file" option. If you choose the file, choose convert a file, choose
"output type" as avi, it resaves the movie as avi again, but this time it
works with any computer and with powerpoint 2003. Austin's utility probably
does the same thing, but it gets inserted into powerpoint tool bar.
