loss of Excel xlsx files

N

NB

Windows Mail will not show email attachments that have an Excel xlsx file so
I don't know they have been sent unless it is mentioned in the email. Any
help please Vista/Norton 360/IE8

You mean the attachments are removed?
If so Uninstall Norton then ask for them to be resent

Are those attachments being sent from someone using Outlook?
Microsoft Outlook by default uses a proprietary encoding format for attachments.
You would either need to receive those with Outlook, or else try opening them
in webmail. Some webmail services will recognize the presence of the
attachment and will allow you to save it.

Yes they are sent via Outlook - my Microsoft Outlook will not save passwords
which if I could solve this it would cure the problem, therefore I use M Mail
- it will accept pptx and docx files but not exel xlsx files.

When you receive one of those invisible xlsx files, select it, then press Ctrl+F3.
This will show the source code of the message. Do you see something that
says Winmail.dat, followed by a solid mass of random characters? That's the
marker for the proprietary Outlook encoding. For some background information
and workarounds, see
