I run WIN XP Pro SP2 (fully updated) with my data directory encrypted.

Is there any way to avoid the "bug me" message that a file will lose its
encryption when I drag it from my hard drive to a flash drive as a backup
copy?

EFS (encrypting file system) built into Windows XP Pro requires NTFS for the
file system. Your flash drive is just the old FAT file system.

TrueCrypt might be usable with flash drives. There are other 3rd party
encryption programs, some of which (like TrueCrypt) are free.

That Subject, of course, would be Loss of ENCRYPTION...
